November 2025
Entries are now open for Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) 2026, the world’s largest and most influential wine competition. Now in its 23rd year, DWWA continues to set the global benchmark for wine quality, providing producers with unparalleled exposure, international recognition and commercial results.
For producers across Australia and New Zealand, DWWA offers an unrivalled platform to showcase wines on a global stage — connecting medal winners with consumers, importers and distributors around the world.
Global excellence, local impact
Each year, DWWA brings together the industry’s most respected experts to evaluate wines with fairness and precision. In 2025, the competition featured more than 18,000 entries judged by 243 specialists from 33 countries, including 61 Masters of Wine and 20 Master Sommeliers.
New for 2026, is the introduction of a Resident Co-Chair role, rotating annually to bring fresh perspectives and dynamic energy to the leadership team. The first to take on this position, Caro Maurer MW joins existing Co-Chairs Michael Hill Smith AM MW, Andrew Jefford, Ronan Sayburn MS and Beth Willard.
Additionally, five new Regional Chairs join the 2026 judging team, further deepening DWWA’s global expertise: Dr Edward Ragg MW (Asia), Beatriz Machado (Portugal), Matthew Wilkin MS (Loire), Jason Millar (Southern Italy) and Alessandra Piubello (Veneto). Huon Hooke and Justin Knock MW will return as joint Regional Chairs for Australia, and Cameron Douglas MS will again lead for New Zealand.
Australian based Co-Chair Michael Hill Smith AM MW said:
“Recognition at DWWA carries real weight in the global wine world. For producers here in Australia and New Zealand, a top award can open doors to new markets and signal credibility to buyers and collectors alike. The competition’s consistency and integrity make it a trusted guide for serious wine drinkers everywhere.”
Why enter?
A DWWA medal represents more than excellence; it’s a mark of credibility recognised by trade and consumers worldwide. Winning producers consistently report increased visibility, new listings and growth in exports, while every entrant (medal or not) receives a professional tasting note, offering valuable insight for future vintages.
DWWA’s independent judging process, transparency and international reach make it an essential benchmark for wineries seeking to elevate their profile and connect with influential audiences.
